Mrs Granger declined our offer to help her leave.
Visiting the enclave was a bit unnerving. Werewolves are treated as animals -- valuable animals, but animals all the same. It took us quite some time to find Hermione's mother. When we did, for a moment I thought she didn't recognise her daughter. Then I was briefly afraid that we would have no opportunity for privacy -- but that turned out to be easy. She simply ordered the others to withdraw until called for.
Mrs Granger herself is the new Alpha.
And that's why she refused to leave.
She feels a responsibility to her pack -- even knowing they might be broken up on the Lord Protector's whim, she's unwilling to simply leave them. And Hermione, you see, arrived in the company of two wizards who treated her with kindness and respect, and who could offer her mother the opportunity to be smuggled to safety. 'You have protectors,' her mother said. 'My pack does not.'
She told Hermione not to come again -- to stick with her new pack. The risks were too high for there to be another cozy mother-daughter visit.
I'm sorry, Hermione. I wish we could have persuaded her to come.
