Walden, all joking aside, I'm sorry you weren't sure you'd be welcome at the Christmas party. We -- that is, Sirius, Dora, and I -- were wondering if you might like to come for a visit. There's plenty of room at 12 Grimmauld and Kreacher's cooking is tolerable. And we could discuss ideas -- as you noted, that's what we're supposed to be about, after all.

And it would be good to see you again.

Not trying to offend anyone's sense of hospitality, but being foisted into a group doesn't bring about a sense of belonging. Too many context shifts at once, too. You and Minerva, once colleagues. Your wife and Bill Weasley, once students. The Longbottoms, once enemies of the Protectorate. See what I mean.

A smaller group might be more manageable.

Plus, have something for you, if you'll have it.

No one's offended, and I certainly understand about being a bit overwhelmed by the whole group.

It'll be just the three of us, you, and the most obnoxious house-elf you've probably ever met. Hopefully that doesn't put you off. I'm rather curious what it is you have for me.

Sounds like Snape was just that.

No suspense, then. It's a young boomslang. About a month ago, a train was stopped at a village in the Cotswalds for the night. Davidson had me and another bloke pull supply. Good-sized tents, mostly, and other necessities. Found this girl in a near-empty livestock car, near to freezing and starvation. Been nursing her back to health since.
